Barbie to real life!

The Barbie movie satirizes femininity through the exaggeration of how women should act. This exaggeration attacks the idea that women should be these perfect dolls. For example in the beginning of the movie the Barbies are overly concerned with beauty, fashion, and the look of the household. This makes fun of society for forcing women and men to have unrealistic beauty standards towards women. The ideology in this universe is that women are capable of perfection, and that the only real hard choses are between which heels to wear (00:44:32). This highlights the power dynamic of society making women simple, yet powerful; this is all we see from the barbies which makes us view them as shallow and lacking personal depth. This is also a satire the movie uses to make fun of men in the real world.

Since the creation of A doll house their has been a lot of positive change in a legal aspect, however, the ideology from 1879 still persist today in modern western society. For example since 1879, women gained the right to vote, the ability to take out loans, and open their own accounts. This change has allowed women to persue a life they want to live, whether that be to have a family or be their own person. Stuff that has not changed is the ideology or specifically the male ideology of women's roles today. This ideology is that women are weaker and less intelligent than men. For example in a dolls house Torvald wags his finger at Nora and states "My little songbird must never do that again" (Ibsen 117).  Torvald name calling and condesendense proves that he believe Nora is inferior to him in a multitude of ways. Today their is a term for this and that term is called "Mansplaining". Today when men talk about subjects, mostly related to finances or work, they assume women know nothing so they over explain and speak to the women like their children. Just like in the play men still assume women know nothing able finances, so they can off almost as bad as Torvald did.
