Nora did the right thing!

In the play "A Doll's House" by Henrik Ibsen, the main character Nora feels she is treated like a doll by her husband. After being emotional manipulate by hypocrisy, taken for granted, and treated like a second class citizen, she decides to leave her husband and children to pursue her own purpose. Although leaving your children behind is a dishonorable act, which has been a societal view since the middle ages, children do worse when being raised by a parent who is emotional conflicted and un-stable. Her emotional instability is no fault of her own. Torvald emotional manipulated her to feel bad after she saved him. For example, after finding out about the loan that she took out Torvald said "she who was my pride and joy- a hypocrite, a liar,- worse, worse- a criminal" (Ibsen 1746). He talks about her greatness, just so he can make her feel bad by framing her character ark as a downfall; by calling her a criminal.

She cant be a good mother two her children if she feels that she has zero value. After telling Torvald of scandal, he yells at her actions directly but then quickly shifts to himself. He speaks of the family's image, dreading "The shame!" that he will have to endure (Ibsen 1746). Within seconds of finding the true he is already thinking of how her sacrifice will effect his identity to the world (people who dont matter). Nora feeling like a Doll that does the right thing and gets no appreciation is not emotionally able to continue being a wife and a mother. No one can blame her for that, but unfortunately the children will suffer. Since she feels no appreciation from her husband, she will naturally feel resentment towards her duties, which one of them being taking care of the kids, she will naturally resent her role as a mother. This resentment will translate towards kids being raised in anger and suffering which is no way for a kid to grow up.
