Modern "Education"

I have experienced a well-intentioned bank-clerk teacher on several occasions. It was not only monotonous but agonizingly boring and useless. I am appalled at the way that modern education continuously falls short of truly educating students. Consistently "the student records, memorizes and repeats… phrases without realizing… the true significance"(Freire 87). This practice leads to many students including myself feeling not only disenchanted with the concept of learning, but it provides us with very little to show in terms of practical knowledge that can be applied in everyday life. For example, I had an English teacher in high school that was a substitute for a week, and his class consisted of him reading Shakespeare to us for the entire hour of class. That was it. No participation, no analysis, no nothing. Sure he had good intentions- he wanted us to learn the wonders of Shakespeare! But can I correlate anything in my life that has been positive or useful to Shakespeare? No! This is quintessential useless information- information that has no use or purpose. It has been frustrating encountering these teachers who insist on this broken way of teaching that lacks authentic learning and I would be happy to never have to sit through another class like my English class in High school again. And on that note, the majority of teachers are completely inept and useless at doing what they are tasked to do. I had an absolutely horrible high school experience because of the lack of stimulation and good-quality teaching by my teachers.
