Climbing with a purpose

Every person has been faced with the question, What do you want to be when you grow up? Typically this question is brought up around grade school possibly kindergarten, it's a questions we have heard for years. I disagree with the author of this article because I personally believe this permits many people to think critically especially since a young age as I think this falls under the criteria of problem posing thinking, as it helps a younger person critically think to what they want to do when they grow up. Although that answer may change within years it is still crucial for a person to have a idea of the area of study or career they want to fall into to. When you're in college about to graduate what are you going to do when you just start getting a grasp of what you want to do? I disagree with her when she states " No student should have to determine her first career path before her junior year begins"(Glassman 4) I don't think this is necessarily true due to the fact that you should have an idea of where you want to be in the next 5-10 years for this reason we have internships to see what you like to do and what you don't. As Freire says "As women and men, simultaneously reflecting on themselves and on the world, increase the scope of their perception." (Freire 94) Stating that everyone are constantly reflecting on the world including themselves, their careers, and their future putting out to sound like this is a part of that critical thinking he mentions to his readers. I think that always having in the back of your mind what your career interest is, this can help you in the long run. Especially in college though because  we have been advised to look for internships now, our freshman year so who could one look for a internship without the knowledge of knowing what they want to do.
