Careerism is the whole point of college!
While reading this article, I noticed that I said "yes" after reading every line. I had similar thoughts of Quidditch and that college is gonna be just like Hogwarts (School of Wizards from the Harry Potter series), however, I have always had doubt. By being realistic and having doubt, I was able to prepare myself for the incoming competitive environment. Throughout every species, competitive is the key toward evolution and survival. This is why I disagree with Ms. Glassman that careerism ruins college. I "whole-heartedly" believe that competition through careerism is what makes my mother's thirty thousand dollar investment worth it. When I see older student "posting about their prestigious internships", a competitive spirts inspires me to do my homework and study harder (Glassman 2). Seeing classmates brag about their successes has two outcomes, let the competitive environment make college worth it or let it ruin college. The author makes great points about the mental health affects from careerism but, this argument is about mentality. I don't think careerism can align with problem posing education because PPE has subjective grading. What I mean by this is that instead of tests and exams Since careerism goes with competition, there needs to be an objective grading method and this method goes along with the "banking concept".
