A deposit into a future worker

Freire and I have an identical view of the education system. What I resent most is his idea that words and concepts "become hollow" when teaching a student (Freire 87).  Freire believes these words mean nothing to us students and that we can't explain these concepts since our education system only gives incentives to memorization and not mastery of a subject. What is the point of knowing what the "capital of Para is Belem" is if you don't know what language people speak there, what those people look like, or where the state and capital is on a map (Freire 87). Freire theory helped me realize that ninety percent of the classes I took in high-school were in the format of the banking concept where the teachers deposited information into my head which I wrote down and memorized to achieve a high grade. I did have a business class where the goal was to research an industry and then with the help of the teacher, create a professional business plan within that industry that could be pitched to hypothetical investors. This class embodied Freire's problem posing education where the teacher and I collaborated and had conversations which helped me obtain and build upon my knowledge. This teacher helped me realize now that problem posing education is the best method of teaching. Since I had to research extensively on one topic (restaurant industry) and show a mastery of this topic through creating a professional business plan, I still remember what I learned from that class two years later while I forgot most information I learned from a tradition class.  A quote that I most connected with was "Authentic thinking, thinking that is concerned about reality, does not take place in ivory tower isolation, but only in communication" (Freire 91). This means that you can't obtain original ideas and thoughts through being shown a definition on a screen, but only through speaking with others about how this idea can be applied to its purpose in life. I connected with this quote through my educational journey because the classes I enjoyed and learned the most were the classes where we spoke as a class about the topics that we were trying to master. For example, I had original ideas about whether it was right or wrong for the United States to drop the atomic bomb on Hiroshima because we debated these reasons and motivations within dialogue between students as well as the teacher. This United States History class was one of the three classes I took where problem posing education was mainly implemented.
